Wrong Fuel in Car Kegworth, Leicestershire

Local Call-Out and Roadside Repair in Leicestershire

In the case you may have put the wrong fuel in the car or truck and at this point have to have a fuel drain you are likely trawling the web searching for a rapid, trusted, proficient and a relatively inexpensive wrong fuel removal service in Kegworth or Leicestershire. To tell the truth, we are the people to aid you!

It was about eight pm on a Saturday and even though we were assured a rainless day, it had not given up on raining! Mark and I were sitting there talking over the football results, at the ready for the 8th call of the day to come in. In due time we got a call from a girl on a company expedition who had arrived at the BP petrol garage in Kegworth and filled the wrong fuel in a diesel apple green Isuzu i-370 hire car. She was rather distressed by the sounds of it, stating "I simply can't believe that I have destroyed the vehicle! I am just so used to filling up my petrol car that I completely didn't remember that I was operating a diesel!" I just advised her to take it easy and not to be concerned, and also that such things regrettably do happen. She managed to maneuver the car into a secure spot and, seeing that it was no more than a few minutes away from where we were, we were able to find the lady quickly. The wrong fuel was extracted so she could once again go back to the hotel she was residing at. Although we got pretty drenched, it was all worth the time to watch her drive off calm and a lot less anxious. A misfuel correction in Leicestershire well done in my mind!

The 3 things you HAVE TO know about Wrong Fuel!

Waste Fuel Removal

Got an old fuel tank at the rear of the garden full of out of date, unusable or contaminated fuel? We are able to help you to dispose of it. We have been called out to several private and commercial premises in Leicestershire to take care of taking away and recycling fuel storages. We are registered by the Environment Agency to enable us to remove and recycle waste fuel legally and safely.

Regardless of whether the fuel storage is a subterranean tank, a portable bowser, or even a number of containers in an outbuilding, assuming that we are able to access it, we could certainly empty it.

Water Contamination or AdBlue Contamination

Water contaminated fuel, no matter whether it's unleaded petrol or diesel, can be a serious situation to take care of in a vehicle - particularly in modern day common-rail engines.

Putting water or AdBlue in your fuel may produce idling issues, uneven running, abnormal smoke and, if not taken care of correctly, in some cases damaged injectors. Having water in petrol is less difficult to remove as compared to water in diesel - this is primarily because diesel is an oil. Even so we can take care of both situations pretty quickly.

Keep in mind however that any time the vehicle was run on the water contamination it will probably need a new fuel filter fitted since the previous one will undoubtedly be totally water-logged and unusable.

What a great night's uninterrupted sleep! 7:30 am on a bright Saturday and we were on my way to help an older lady who had put contaminated fuel in her diesel spotless Vauxhall Bedford in Kegworth. I had been advised she had left the filling station and pulled up on a country road on the way to visit her godchildren. I got her location plugged in the TomTom and got there inside 60 minutes. I reached the car and drained the contaminated fuel in the car car. Whilst I was doing the work she said, "I'm getting fairly forgetful in my senior years and didn't remember about the vehicle working with diesel as I had only purchased it a week ago right after my other car, which I'd had for about twenty years, finally broke down". I completed the drain and she gifted me a Murray mint and thanked me for my work. What a pleasant Leicestershire woman!

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
